The United States is in a new movement. We want a smaller government. However, before we try to reduce the size of
the government, let’s think about one thing first. Are we reducing
government spending or the size of government?
Government agencies are needed today to
protect people’s rights and check their responsibilities. If we
reduce the size of the government, we probably will reduce people’s access to
our laws protecting them.
The main goal of government is protecting
people’s rights. Reducing government through spending cuts will
definitely not be enough. If anybody thinks it will, they’re kidding
ourselves. However, it can be a start. We have to reinvent our
federal government with the same purpose: protection of people’s rights
and setting national goals.
People’s rights exist with their jobs,
insurance, homes, water, environment, schools, public infrastructure, courts
and voting. These are all important areas of rights that have to be
protected at all levels of government.
The only satisfactory change we can make to
government is change how we pay for our services, cut waste, cut public payroll
by 5 percent and reform taxes. Taxes should mainly be imposed
on consumption. There should be one very small flat payroll tax as well as a business tax to help
fund everything. There is no need for all the taxes we pay.
Let’s be honest with ourselves about our
government. We need money to fund our government to protect our rights
including our right to have freedom. But we need a more balanced tax
system to do it.
